Pair combine for no-hitter against Franciscan

Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

The Saint Vincent softball team continued its strong start to the 2011 season, sweeping a doubleheader at Franciscan University in Ohio by identical scores of 9-0.

Both games were shortened to five innings due to the 8-run rule.

Shauna Hetrick picked up the win in the opener, working the first three innings.  Emily Lauterbach came on to pitch the final two...and the duo combined to pitch a no-hitter, believed to be the first combined no-hitter in school history.  Only a leadoff walk in the bottom of the final inning prevented a perfect game.

Kerstin Makowski homered for SVC in the first game, going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.  Lindsay Daniels went 2-for-3 with a triple and four runs batted in, and Leanna Seminsky doubled twice.

In the second game, Alyssa Grossman went the distance for the win, giving up just two hits while striking out seven.

Emily Petrowsky was 2-for-2, including her first HR of the season, three runs scored and three RBI.  Maria Adams (2-3) doubled, and Lynn Buffoni was 2-3 with three RBI.

The Bearcats' (7-1) doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at Penn State-New Kensington has been postponed.  The team will return to action on Wednesday, March 30th, traveling to Juniata College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
