The Bearcat lacrosse team ended the regular season with a record of 9-5 after a tough 23-6 loss on the road to Ohio Wesleyan University.
Trailing 7-4 at halftime, the Bearcats saw the Bishops score 10 unanswered goals in the third quarter to put the game away. Ohio Wesleyan would end the game by outscoring SVC 6-2 over the fourth quarter to cruise to the win.
Saint Vincent started the day's scoring early, with
Ryan Kearney scoring off an assist from
Jake Dick just 63 seconds into play. It was the lone lead of the day for the Bearcats, however, as the Bishops would counter with four unanswered goals to go in front 4-1. Eventually,
Will DeLanoy cut the gap to two, 4-2, with an SVC goal with 54 seconds left in the quarter.
Vincenzo DiSantis would pull SVC to within one, 4-3, with a goal just 30 seconds into the second quarter, but the Bishops scored three of the game's next four goals to take a 7-4 advantage into the intermission.
The Battling Bishops would then come out of the gates on fire, outscoring the Bearcats 10-0 (and out-shooting SVC 15-4) to take a 17-4 lead into the final quarter.
Kearney and Dick would each score in the opening three minutes of the fourth quarter for SVC, but it was the final offense of the day for the visitors, as the Bishops ended the game on a 5-0 run over the final six minutes to cruise to the 23-6 win.
Dick led the Bearcat offense, posting two goals and an assist, while Kearney scored two goals and DeSantis a goal and an assist. For the game, the Bishops more than doubled SVC in shots, holding a 55-27 advantage, while OWU also had a decisive edge in face offs, winning 22 of 33.
The Bearcats wrap up the regular season with a 9-5 record - the team's best since 2006. The team also established a regular season record for goals scored, with 206. Saint Vincent will now await word on any postseason possibilities.
