The visiting Grove City Wolverines won a pair of close games over the Bearcats in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.  Final scores were 5-3 and 2-1.

The Wolverines scored first, bringing home a run on three hits in the top of the first inning.  They added to their lead with an unearned run two innings later.

In the bottom of the third, the Bearcats cut the deficit in half, when Alyssa Grossman doubled home Shannon Hite, who had led off the inning with a single.

The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth, when SVC's Grossman drew a leadoff walk.  After a sacrifice by Emily Petrowsky moved the tying run to second, Maria Adams was hit by a pitch.  With two runners on, Lindsey Daniels singled to load the bases.  Sam Shumaker then appeared to hit a single into left field, but it turned into a fielder's choice when Adams was called out at third.  Still, Grossman scored on the play to tie the game.  After Emily Lauterbach drew a walk to re-load the bases, a wild pitch scored Daniels with the go-ahead run.

In the top of the 7th, after a leadoff single, GCC attempted to bunt the potential tying run to second.  SVC pitcher Shauna Hetrick's throw to shortstop was high, but the umpire ruled that Petrowsky came down with the ball and her foot on the base for the force out.  However, after a conference between the umpires, the call was reversed.  Later in the inning, with two outs and two strikes, Grove City freshman Casey Schmidt hit a three-run home run over the left-center field fence to give the visitors a 5-3 lead.

SVC was unable to score in the bottom half of the inning, securing the win for Grove City.

In game two, SVC was held to just two hits through the first six innings, as the visitors built a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the 7th, with Saint Vincent playing as the visiting team and batting first, Kerstin Makowski drew a walk to lead off.  Shumaker then reached on an infield single.  With one out, Leanna Seminsky singled to load the bases, and Becky Deane followed with an RBI single, making the score 2-1.  However, the Bearcats were unable to score the tying run, as the Wolverines left Latrobe with a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference victories.

SVC will be back in action on Thursday, hosting Waynesburg University at 3:30PM.
