The Saint Vincent men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season by rolling past the Mount Aloysius Mounties by a final score of 4-0.

The Bearcats scored all four goals in the second half but controlled the game from start to finish. Saint Vincent tallied 23 shots in the contest, 11 of which were on goal.

After a scoreless first half, freshman Brody Ruffner put the hosts in front for good at the 49:54-mark with his first goal of the season. Ruffner's goal came off a deflected Bearcat corner kick and made the score 1-0.

Just under two minutes later, junior Anthony Balistreri scored on a breakaway down the right side to put Saint Vincent ahead 2-0.

Balistreri struck again at the 66:06-mark, this time getting behind Mounties goalkeeper Adam Al-Habashi and putting Saint Vincent up 3-0.

Sophomore Elom Pedanou finished off the scoring for the afternoon when he corralled a loose ball and buried it at the 82:38-mark to give the Bearcats the commanding 4-0 advantage.

Balistreri picked up his second and third goals of the season and assisted on the Ruffner tally, finishing the afternoon with five points.

Saint Vincent goalie senior Jake Gilbertson earned the win without having to record a save, thanks to the Bearcats' defense, which locked down the Mounties and allowed only one shot (which sailed wide) in the contest.

The Bearcats return to action tomorrow evening, Friday, Sept. 16, traveling to LaRoche College at 5pm. Saint Vincent returns home Sunday, Sept. 18, for a 1pm match up with Kings College.
