Men's soccer ends season with 5-1 loss

LATROBE (Oct. 24) - The Saint Vincent men's soccer team closed out the 2012 season with a 5-1 loss against Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on the SVC Turf.

With the loss, the Bearcats conclude the season with a 6-11-1 overall record and a 1-7 mark in the PAC. Grove City, who has one regular season game remaining, remains in the hunt for a conference tournament bid with a 4-2-1 conference record while improving to 7-9-1 on the season.

The Wolverines took a 1-0 lead at the 29:02-mark when Jordan Carmichael scored his first goal of the season. Grove City would hang on to the 1-0 lead into the half.

9:29 into the second half, junior Trevor Cutlip tied the game when he took a pass from freshman Christian Trueax and brought SVC back into the game, 1-1.

Carmichael's second goal of the game came just 3:01 later to give the guests the lead for good. In the 66th minute, Seth Loew, who assisted on both of Carmichael's first two goals, extended the lead to 3-1 on an assist by Carmichael.

Grove City added two goals (83:35 and 87:59), including a hat trick by Carmichael, to post the 5-1 final.

For the game, the Wolverines held a 33-9 advantage on shots, behind a 20-4 lead in the first half. Junior Luke D'Amico and Trueax were the only Bearcats to record multiple shots.

Senior goalkeeper Clemente Mejia played the whole game in his finale with the Bearcats, making 10 saves in 90 minutes.

Along with Mejia, seniors Gage Arnold, Aaron Frech and Elom Pedanou all played their final games for SVC.
