88th minute goal sinks Bearcats at Geneva, 3-2

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 3) - Sophomore Michael Cerchione tied the game in the 82nd minute, but Geneva scored in the 88th minute to beat the Bearcats in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The Saint Vincent men's soccer team begins PAC play 0-2 and falls to 5-6-1 overall with the loss. Geneva moves to 5-4-2 this season and 1-0-1 in league action.

SVC scored the lone goal in the first half when freshman Constantine Barlamas scored his first goal of the season on an assist by junior Trevor Cutlip at the 36:59-mark.

The two teams erupted for four goals in the final 19:25 of play, including two Geneva goals within six-plus minutes starting at the 70:35-mark to equalize the game.

With 8:02 left to play, senior Gage Arnold found Cerchione, who scored his third goal of the season, to tie the game and give the Bearcats hope.

Geneva scored the game-winner with just 2:39 left to play when Teddy Krzywiecki scored his second goal of the game.

Geneva held a slight 16-5 edge on shots, behind a 14-8 second-half advantage. Junior Luke D'Amico, sophomore Josue Cuadra and Cerchione led the team with three shots each while Barlamas added two shots.

Senior goalkeeper Clemente Mejia suffered the loss, making six saves in 90 minutes.

The Bearcats look for their first win in PAC play on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they travel to Washington & Jefferson at 3:30 p.m.
