FREDERICK, Md. (Dec. 30) - The Saint Vincent men's basketball team fell to host Hood, 73-65, in the championship game of the Rotary Club of Frederick Holiday Tournament at BB&T Arena.
With the loss, the Bearcats close out 2012 with an 8-4 mark and head resume conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Thiel at 8 p.m.
Hood opened up a 37-27 lead at the half, behind 48.1 percent (13-of-27) shooting in the first half. Three different Bearcats led the team with six points in the first half.
In the second half, Saint Vincent out-scored the host Blazers by two points, 38-36, but it was not enough to overcome the 10-point halftime deficit.
For the game, SVC shot 50.0 percent (25-of-50) from the field and 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from beyond-the-arc. Hood finished 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the floor and 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from three-point range. Hood attempted 23 more free throws, finishing 24-of-32 (75.0 percent) for the game, compared to just eight-of-nine (88.9 percent) for Saint Vincent.
The Blazers held a 31-23 advantage on rebounds and forced SVC into 19 turnovers compared to just 13 turnovers.
Senior guard
Chris Klimchock led the Bearcats with 15 points, while senior guard
Edmond Wright II turned in a career high with 14 points. Junior forward
Dillon Stith registered 13 points in the loss. Both Stith and Wright were named to the All-Tournament Team following the game.
Tournament MVP honors went to Hood's Matt Galloway who tied to lead the game with 16 points. Cameron Cook also added 16 points, while All-Tournament team member Justin Bowens finished with 10 points for the Blazers.
