The Bearcat men's lacrosse team opened the 2012 season with a 10-9 loss on the road in Virginia at Marymount University.
Saint Vincent got off to the early lead as freshman
Nick Pensyl scored his first collegiate goal just over three minutes into play. With the score later tied at one, SVC went ahead after back to back goals by
Alex Walsh and
Will DeLanoy.
An
Alex Langton goal at the 4:27 mark of the first quarter made it a 4-2 game, but the hosts tied the game by the end of the opening 15 minutes.
Mike Diggs scored for the Bearcats just over a minute into what would be a defensive second quarter, but Marymount added a pair of goals to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.
After MU took a 7-5 lead just eight seconds into the third quarter, the Bearcats then went on a run, with goals by
Peter Hronis, DeLanoy and
Marty Teynor giving SVC an 8-7 advantage. After a tying goal by Marymount's Danny Carson, Pensyl added his second goal of the game and the Bearcats went into the fourth quarter up 9-8.
However, the Marymount defense shut down Saint Vincent's offense the remainder of the game. James Wendell tied the score at nine with 11:30 remaining, and just over two minutes later, David Huson scored the eventual game-winner. Neither team was able to find the net over the final nine minutes.
SVC (0-1) will host Marywood University (PA) on Saturday, March 3 at 2PM in the home opener.
