Junior Sam Shumaker belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first and classmate Maria Adams finished 3-for-3 as the Bearcats won the first game of a doubleheader against Mount Aloysius, 4-2, before dropping the nightcap, 2-0.

The visiting Mounties took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a walk and a pair of singles.  However, the lead wouldn't hold up, as the Bearcats scored four times in the bottom half of the inning.  With one out, Lindsey Daniels started the rally with a double, then scored on a single by Adams.  After a Becky Deane single, Shumaker hit her first home run of the season to make the score 4-1.

Mount Aloysius got an unearned run back in the top of the fourth, but SVC pitcher Alyssa Grossman shut down the Mounties the rest of the way to earn the win.

Grossman gave up just four hits and struck out two en route to the victory, while Emily Lauterbach worked the final two innings, striking out three and earning the save.

In game two, the visitors tallied a pair of runs in the fourth inning, and pitcher Kelsy Ickes did the rest, shutting out the Bearcats and holding the hosts to just two hits - a double by Shumaker and a single by Shannon Baczek

Shauna Hetrick (2-1) took the loss, but struck out five in three innings.  Lauterbach worked four scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.

With the split, the Saint Vincent softball team's record remains even at 5-5. The Mounties move to 4-6 on the season.
