BOX SCORE - GAME ONE
BOX SCORE - GAME TWO
The Penn State-Altoona Lions swept a doubleheader over Saint Vincent by scores of 5-2 and 5-0.
Altoona scored in the bottom of the first inning in game one, thanks to back-to-back doubles off SVC starter
Alyssa Grossman (3-1). After that, the game was a pitching duel for the next several innings, with the score remaining 1-0 through the middle of the sixth inning.
However, in the bottom of the sixth, the hosts exploded for four runs on four hits to expand the lead to 5-0. The Bearcats got on the board in the top of the seventh, when
Megan Regula hit a pinch-hit single that scored
Lindsey Daniels, who had doubled. Regula later scored on when
Ally Panzella hit into a fielder's choice, but it wasn't enough, as SVC fell by a score of 5-2.
In game two, a pair of errors led to the Bearcats' demise, as the Lions scored once in the second and four more times in the fifth -- but all five runs were unearned.
Emily Lauterbach started and took the loss, but her ERA remained a perfect 0.00 on the year. She worked the first 4.1 innings and gave up two hits.
Offensively, the Bearcats had seven hits, led by
Becky Deane (3-for-4) and
Shannon Baczek (2-2). However, SVC stranded eight runners in the game.
Saint Vincent is now 7-7 on the season, and will return to action on Thursday, hosting Franciscan University of Steubenville at 3PM in a doubleheader.
