The Saint Vincent softball team concluded its Spring Break trip by splitting games against Marywood University
and Bemidji State University.  SVC defeated Marywood 5-1 before falling to Division II Bemidji by a 3-0 score.

Marywood got on the board in the top of the third.  After a leadoff double by Kim Lopes, an error brought home the first run of the game.

In the home half of the third, Megan Regula singled with one out, then moved to second when Suzie Cool drew a walk.  Lindsey Daniels then singled to load the bases, and Maria Adams drove home the tying run with a sacrifice fly.

A leadoff single by Shannon Baczek in the fourth inning was followed by a sacrifice bunt by Sam Shumaker, putting a runner in scoring position.  Ally Panzella then singled home Baczek with the go-ahead – and eventual game-winning – run.

In the sixth, SVC added three insurance runs.  Baczek, Ally Vrcek and Alyssa Grossman all walked to load the bases.  A passed ball brought home the Bearcats' third run of the game, then Regula singled home another urn, followed by an RBI single by Cool, making the score 5-1.

It was more than enough support for Hetrick, who went the distance, giving up just four hits and no earned runs, while striking out five.

In the second game of the day, SVC faced a tough Bemidji State University team from Minnesota.  The Division II school tallied three unearned runs in the top of the first, despite a solid performance from freshman Mikele Prokopovich in the circle.  Prokopovich struck out the side in the inning, but the damage had been done.

Courtney Anderson pitched for the Beavers and was dominant from the outset, striking out eight of the first 9 Saint Vincent batters.   Anderson held the Bearcats hitless throughout, with just one runner reaching base on an error, as she recorded the no-hitter.

Prokopovich went the distance, scattering seven hits and striking out four in a solid performance.

Saint Vincent concludes its Florida Spring Break trip with a record of 4-4.
