TIMELY POSSESSED
In last week's 23-7 loss to Bridgewater, the Eagles possessed the ball for 36:24, compared to the Bearcats 23:36. Only once last season did a team control the ball for longer, when Bethany held a 36:46-23:14 advantage in SVC's 20-14 win in the regular season finale. During the 2011 season, the Bearcats controlled the football longer in 54.5 percent (6-of-11) of their games.
MOVIN' ON UP
With his five catch, 88 yard performance against Bridgewater, senior WR
Ricky Douglas went over 1,000 receiving yards for his career. Sitting at 1,025 yards and 72 receptions, Douglas needs four catches and 214 yards to catch former Bearcat WR Sheldon Loughner for the program's benchmarks.
CONSISTENT RICKY
Douglas extended his streak of having at least one reception in a game to 20 games, after recording at least one reception in every game last season. The last time he was held without a catch was the 2010 season-opener against Bridgewater. He did not play the season finale that season at Bethany after suffering an injury in the penultimate game of the year against Westminster. The modern-day record is 26 games which is also held by Loughner.
EHREDT ERASING PEOPLE
Junior RB
Huey Ehredt moved past former teammate
Jake Smith for the third most carries in a career against Bridgewater. Ehredt now has 140 rushes in 12 games for SVC and has his sights set on second-place on the career list which is the 199 carries by former Bearcat
Zach Mihalko.
FLAG ON THE PLAY
Bridgewater's 13 penalties last weekend tied a Chuck Noll Field record which was previously set by Geneva in 2008.
STALLED RUSH
The 87 yards rushing the Bearcats gained against Bridgewater marked the lowest rushing total since SVC gained 85 yards against then-No. 6 Thomas More last season, in a 20-17 defeat. Ehredt was the team's leading rusher with 26 yards. In his first year with the program, Ehredt was held under that total just once last year when he had 19 yards on five carries in the ECAC Southwest Bowl loss to Lebanon Valley. The Bearcats also totaled just 28 rushes, the lowest total since recording just 24 carries in SVC's 24-6 defeat at Thomas More on Oct. 16, 2010.
NEW STARTERS
The Bearcats started 12 (seven defense, five offense) new players from the 2011 season in the season-opener.
STARTERS BY CLASS
Saint Vincent started seven seniors (six on offense, one on defense), eight juniors (four on offense, four on defense), six sophomores (one on offense, five on defense) and one freshman (on defense) in the season-opener.
