Late goal sinks Men's Soccer at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 12) - Westminster broke a scoreless tie with 1:35 remaining in regulation en route to a 1-0 win over Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The loss drops the Bearcat men's soccer team to 2-10 on the season and 0-2 in the PAC. The Titans improve to 1-1-1 in the league and 6-7-1 on the season.

Marcus Gurgiolo scored an unassisted goal for Westminster at the 88:25-mark of regulation off a deflection in the box to send the hosts to the victory in dramatic fashion.

Westminster led, 21-13, in shots for the game, thanks in part to an 11-6 advantage in the first half. The hosts also took an extra corner kick, 6-5, despite SVC holding a 4-2 edge in the category during the first half.

Junior Brody Ruffner led SVC, and tied for the game-high, with five shots, including three on goal. Senior Trevor Cutlip added three shots and sophomore Christian Trueax posted two.

Junior goalkeeper Eric Houghton made eight saves in 90 minutes of action.

SVC returns home for two games, the first of which is Tuesday, Oct. 15 against Thomas More at 3:30 p.m.
