The Saint Vincent women's soccer team overpowered Chatham University by a score of 8-0 in the Bearcats' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
SVC dominated play from the start, ultimately out-shooting the Cougars 33-1 on the afternoon. SVC had a 7-0 edge in corner kicks as well.
Chatham goalkeeper Liz Sawyer kept her team in the game early, posting 10 saves in the first half.Â
The game remained scoreless until the 17th minute, when
Meghan Smith scored, with help from both
Abbey Neish and
Rebecca Sandor.
Seven minutes later, Smith returned the favor, sending a cross into the box, where Sandor headed it into the net to double the lead.
Five minutes later,
Brittany Schaller scored off an assist from
Jennifer Kisner, and just three minutes later,
Tori Sawhney scored an unassisted goal off a rebound, giving SVC a 4-0 lead at the half.
Sawhney opened the second half with her second goal of the game just one minute into play.Â
Katherine Bieler's shot rolled through the defense and Sawhney blasted it into the net from just a foot away.
Schaller's second goal of the game, in the 62nd minute, increased the lead to 6-0, then Neish tallied a goal eight minutes later, assisted by Sandor, that made it 7-0.
The game's final goal, in the 84th minute, was the longest range goal of the day, as Bieler took a shot from nearly 30 yards out that came down just under the crossbar and into the back of the net.
Cassie Overly and
Kelsey Farrand traded time in the net, with Farrand facing the only shot of the day and posting a save.
Saint Vincent is now 6-4 overall, 1-0 in the PAC, while Chatham falls to 1-8 (0-1).
The Bearcats will be back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Washington, PA to face Washington & Jefferson College.
