FERRUM, Va. (March 23) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team suffered its fourth-straight loss, a 15-7 setback at Ferrum (Va.).
The Bearcats drop to 2-4 on the season, while Ferrum, who came in having lost three of its last four, improves to 7-5 on the year, setting a school record for wins in a season.
The Panthers scored the game's first two goals, but SVC answered with two consecutive goals just 44 seconds apart to tie the game, 2-2.
Zach Clark got the Bearcats on the board first at the 3:38-mark with an assist to
Joey Lunz, and then
Bryce Pasquariello found the back of the net after taking a pass from
Nick Pensyl. Ferrum added two goals in the final 2:49 of the first quarter to take a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes.
Peter Hronis cut the margin to one goal, 4-3, just 15 seconds into the second quarter, unassisted. Ferrum, however, responded with the final three goals of the period to take a 7-3 lead at halftime.
At the 12:35-mark of the third quarter, Ferrum scored another goal, but Pensyl answered it just 32 seconds later, 8-4. At that point, the hosts would score five-straight goals entering into the fourth quarter, before
Matt Mackey and Pensyl (from
JD Mayer) snapped the scoreless streak for SVC at the 4:30 and 3:44-marks of the fourth quarter. Mackey added his second goal of the game with 1:50 to play as SVC fell, 15-7.
Pensyl led SVC with three points (two goals, one assist) and Mackey posted a pair of scores. Five other Bearcats added a point.
SVC was out-shot on the day, 44-35, but won 15 of 26 face-offs, led by Hronis who was 14-of-18.
Adam Gunter suffered the loss despite making a season-high 21 saves on the afternoon.
SVC is idle until Wednesday, April 3 when it travels to Frostburg State (Md.) for a 7 p.m. contest.
