The Saint Vincent softball team, seeing its first action in 17 days, swept a doubleheader at Franciscan, taking the first game, 7-3, before winning the nightcap, 8-4.
Lindsey Daniels opened game one with a single in the top of the first and later scored on a single by
Shayla Landman, giving SVC a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning,
Marisa McAndrews singled to lead off, and
Jenna LoVasco hit a two-run home run that put the visiting Bearcats in front 3-0.
Sarah Swettlen also homered for Saint Vincent in the 7th inning in support of winning pitcher
Emily Lauterbach, who went the distance, walking three and striking out four.
LoVasco went 3-for-3 with three RBI, adding a pair of doubles in addition to the home run. Landman went 2-4.
Game two was never in doubt, as SVC scored five runs in the first.
Maria Adams hit a 2-run double to provide the big hit of the inning.
Ally Vrcek yielded 10 hits on the day, but struck out eight en route to the complete game win.
SVC took advantage of seven Baron errors in the game. Seven Bearcats each had one hit in the game, while Daniels scored a pair of runs. Landman,
Becky Deane and
Suzie Cool had runs batted in.
The Bearcats improve to 5-3 on the season and have their first winning streak (three games) of the year. Franciscan drops to 0-11 on the season.
