The Saint Vincent softball team ended its Spring Break trip to Clermont, FL with a doubleheader split against Penn State-New Kensington. After losing game one, 3-1, SVC roared back to win the second game by a score of 13-2.
Game one was a pitcher's duel and stayed scoreless through the first five innings. After the Lions scored in the top of the 6th, SVC fought back in the bottom half of the inning.
Lindsey Daniels led off with a single then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Shannon Hite.
Maria Adams then doubled to deep right center, bringing home Daniels.
However, PSNK's Bridget Fisher hit a two-run home run to right center in the top of the 7th, and SVC was unable to score in the bottom half of the inning, losing game one by a 3-1 tally.
Emily Lauterbach took the loss in the circle, giving up just four hits while striking out six.
In game two, the Bearcat bats came alive, scoring seven runs and sending 10 batters to the plate.
Shayla Landman and
Sarah Swettlen each drove home two runs during the inning.
SVC added two more runs in the fourth in support of
Ally Vrcek, who went the distance for the win.
The Bearcats added four more runs in the fifth inning, and the tournament's 8-run rule stopped the game after five innings.
Vrcek gave up just three hits and one earned run while striking out 10 in five innings. Offensively, SVC had three triples in the game, one each by Daniels, Swettlen and
Marisa McAndrews.
Swettlen went 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored twice. Adams, Landman and
Ally Panzella each had two hits. Panzella and Landman also drove home two runs each.
Saint Vincent completes its Florida trip with a record of 3-3. The team will now return to Pennsylvania and will be in action on Tuesday, hosting Penn State-Fayette at 3PM.
