The SVC softball team defeated Bethany College on the road by a score of 5-3 in the opening game of a twinbill, then dropped game two by a 10-0 score.
In game one, SVC took at 1-0 lead in the second inning, when
Suzie Cool singled, moved up on a sacrifice bunt by
Sam Shumaker, then scored on an error.
The Bearcats then added insurance runs in the sixth.
Shannon Baczek led off with her first home run of the season. Two batters later, Shumaker singled to center, then pinch-runner
Marisa McAndrews moved to second on a single by
Ally Panzella.
Christina Folino walked to load the bases, then
Lindsey Daniels reached on an error, scoring two runs. Folino later stole home, making it 5-0, and SVC held off a late challenge which saw the Bison score three unearned runs in the bottom of the 7th.
Ally Vrcek went the distance, scattering six hits and striking out six. Six different Bearcats had one hit each.
The Bison stormed back in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the first, adding one in the second, four in the fifth and three more in the sixth. SVC managed just one hit, a third inning single by
Jenna LoVasco.
Emily Lauterbach took the loss in the circle.
