SVC stumbles at Greensboro (N.C.), 14-5

GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 20) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team fell behind, 6-1, after 15 minutes of play and were unable to rally, dropping a 14-5 decision at Greensboro College.

The loss puts the Bearcats at 2-8 this season after starting the year 2-0. Greensboro improves to 6-10 win the win.

Alex Walsh, seeing his first action in several games, put SVC on the board with three seconds left in the first quarter on a pass from Matt Mackey.

Mackey scored a goal at the 10:02-mark of the third quarter from Nick Pensyl and then Pensyl scored unassisted with 29 seconds left in the third period. In the final 15 minutes, Steven Cosgrove (from Jay Lunz) and Lunz (from Mackey) added goals for SVC.

Mackey finished tied with a game-high three points as Lunz and Pensyl both added two points. Pensyl led all players with 11 shots in the game.

The Bearcats out-shot the Pride, 41-37, behind 27 shots in the second half. SVC also won 11 of 19 face-offs.

Adam Gunter took the loss, allowing 11 goals and making six saves in 49:06 before giving way to Logan Hoffman, who made three saves, for the final 10:54.

SVC returns to the field on Wednesday, April 24, hosting Washington & Jefferson at 4 p.m.
