The Saint Vincent Bearcats defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson in a soggy game on the SVC Turf by a score of 11-8.
SVC took a 7-2 lead into halftime, with all of the first-half goals coming in the second quarter.
Sean Kretovics,
Corbin Cole and
Nick Pensyl (man up) scored the first three goals of the game to put the Bearcats ahead. A
Zach Clark goal was sandwiched between two W&J scores, before
Bryce Pasquariello, Cole and
Patrick Kenna added goals in the final 1:15 to send SVC into halftime with the lead.
In the second half, the Presidents put together a fierce rally, scoring the first four goals of the third quarter to make it a 7-6 game. Cole's hat-trick goal with 20 seconds left in the third made it an 8-6 game.
In the fourth, W&J scored at 9:34 to return the margin to one goal, but Clark found Pasquariello just eight seconds later to stretch the lead back to two goals, 9-7.
The two teams went through a nearly six minute scoring drought before W&J again cut the difference to one goal, 9-8, but Pensyl and
Jay Lunz added goals in the final 2:14 to help SVC post the 11-8 win, thus snapping an eight-game losing skid.
On the day, SVC held a large, 42-25, advantage on shots, including 22 in the second quarter. The Bearcats also won 19 of 22 face-offs.
Clark led SVC with three points (all goals), while Pasquariello, Lunz, Pensyl and Clark all had two points.
Adam Gunter earned the win, making eight saves in 60 minutes of play.
SVC returns to the field on Saturday, April 27, hosting Thiel at 1 p.m. in a Senior Day match-up.
