Deane HRs lift SVC to pair of wins

Becky Deane hit home runs in both ends of the doubleheader as SVC ended the regular season with 4-3 and 9-0 victories over visiting Grove City on Senior Day in Latrobe.

In game one, SVC trailed 3-0 after just half an inning, but got a run back in the second.  Sam Shumaker led off with a walk, then moved up on a single by Shannon HiteSuzie Cool then singled home Shumaker, making it 3-1.

Shumaker against started a rally in the fourth, singling up the middle with one out.  She then scored on a double by Hite.

The big hit came in the fifth inning, when Deane hit a two-run shot that proved to be the game winner. 

The Bearcats pounded out 12 hits in the game, with both Shumaker and Hite going 3-for-3.  Lynn Buffoni and Cool each went 2-4.  Emily Lauterbach earned the complete game win in the circle, giving up just one earned run while striking out three.  At one point she retired 10 straight batters, giving SVC the opportunity for the comeback win.

In game two, the Bearcats struck early, taking advantage of four Wolverine errors in the first inning,  Combine with a walk and a single by Shumaker, SVC tallied four runs in the bottom of the first.

In the third, SVC sent 10 batters to the plate, tallying five runs.  Deane was responsible for the first run of the inning, hitting a solo home run that bounced off the top of the fence and carried over.

Shumaker completed a perfect day by going 3-for-3 yet again, while five other Bearcats each had one hit.  Ally Vrcek worked the five inning shutout win, giving up four hits and striking out five.

The Bearcats end the season with a record of 12-18, 5-13 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
