LATROBE (April 8) - The Saint Vincent softball team swept the doubleheader against visiting Penn State-Fayette by scores of 19-1 and 13-3 in a the 2013 home opener.

The sweep puts the Bearcats at 9-7 overall this season and drops the Roaring Lions to 3-11 on the year.

Sarah Swettlen paced the offense in the first game, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Bearcats erupted for 19 runs and 15 hits.

Maria Adams finished the game 2-for-2 and 12 different Bearcats recorded hits, including a double by Ally Panzella.

Ally Vrcek picked up the win to improve to 4-4 on the season. She went the whole five innings, yielding just two hits and one run (unearned), while also striking out eight and walking three.

In the second game, SVC fell behind 3-0 after half an inning, but answered back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the score before posting two runs in the second and eight in the bottom of the third.

Adams led the way by going 3-for-3 with five RBI and Becky Deane finished with a pair of hits, while Shannon Baczek and Lynn Buffoni each drove in two runs. Lindsey Daniels and Swettlen combined to go 1-for-2 with five walks and four runs scored in the win.

Swettlen picked up the win in her first collegiate pitching appearance, working the final 4.0 in relief of starter Brianna Toth. Swettlen allowed just two hits and no runs while walking three and striking out two.

The Bearcats, who are scheduled to be at home for six of their final eight doubleheaders, resume Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, April 10 with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader against Waynesburg.
