BOX SCORE
The Bearcat men's soccer team won the inaugural Westmoreland Cup over crosstown rival Pitt-Greensburg by a score of 3-0, in a game played on the UPG campus.
Defense dominated the first half of the game, as neither team was able to score, and the offenses combined for just five shots (SVC 4, UPG 1).
The game opened up in the second half, with each team attempting 12 shots. Pitt-Greensburg was kept off the board, thanks in part to five saves by SVC keeper
Eric Houghton.
The Bearcats found the net three times.
In the 63rd minute,
Kevin Proctor scored off an assist from fellow freshman
Scott Luthy, and it would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Less than six minutes later,
Luke D'Amico scored to give the Bearcats an insurance goal.
With 9 minutes remaining,
Brody Ruffner sent a pass into the box and
Christian Trueax headed it home for the Bearcats' third goal.
With the win, SVC earns the new Westmoreland Cup trophy. The trophy will now spent the next 12 months residing in the Saint Vincent soccer office. In 2014, SVC will host the game, and the winner will then host the trophy for the next year.
Saint Vincent is now 2-6 on the season with the victory.
