Bearcats post 28-0 shot margin in 3-0 win at UPG

BOX SCORE

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 24) - The Saint Vincent defense held Pitt-Greensburg without a shot and the offense scored three goals en route to a 3-0 non-conference win on the road at Ridilla Field.

With the win, the Saint Vincent women's soccer team improves to 5-3 on the season. The Bearcats are 5-0 when recording at least one goal. Pitt-Greensburg drops to 1-6 this year after opening the campaign with a win over Presidents' Athletic Conference member Chatham.

Senior Rebecca Sandor put SVC on the board just 4:57 into the game, scoring her first goal of the season on a breakaway from junior Abbey Neish. Saint Vincent recorded nine shots in the first half, but Sandor's score was the only one that found the back of the net.

The Bearcats registered a goal even faster to begin the second half as Neish scored on a one-timer from inside the box just 2:03 into the second period off of a pass from sophomore Meghan Smith. SVC added an insurance goal exactly 12 minutes later when sophomore Emily Johns tied Smith for the team lead with her third goal of the year with an assist to junior All-American Elly Colvin.

For the game, SVC finished with a 28-0 advantage on shots, behind 19 in the second half. Freshman Brittany Schaller led the team with five shots while seniors Monika Derboghossian and Jennifer Kisner each tallied for shots.

Senior goalkeeper Cassie Overly earned the win in goal, dropping her goals against average to 0.96 on the season while playing 77:47. Freshman Meghan Lyden made her collegiate debut and played the final 12:13. UPG keeper Amanda Hydock made 13 saves in the loss.

SVC will be off for a week before wrapping up non-conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 1 with a 7 p.m. match at Oberlin (Ohio).
