Men's soccer suffers defeat at Franciscan, 4-3

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 8) - The Saint Vincent men's soccer team dropped a non-conference road game at Franciscan, 4-3, falling to 1-4 on the season.

Saint Vincent went ahead, 2-0, thanks to goals by Scott Luthy (at 16:06; from Luke D'Amico) and a penalty-kick goal by Brody Ruffner (36:51). The Barons converted their own penalty kick with 1:40 remaining in the first half as SVC took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Luthy scored his second goal of the game just 9:09 into the second half on an assist by Kevin Proctor. Franciscan answered 3:03 later to make it 3-2. The hosts then scored two goals 14 seconds apart in the 88th minute to earn the come-from-behind win, 4-3.

Saint Vincent held a 25-23 advantage on shots, while the Bearcats took five penalty kicks to the Barons' two.

Luthy posted two goals, while Ruffner added the other. D'Amico and Proctor recorded the only assists. Luthy led SVC with six shots and Proctor and Ruffner had five and four, respectively.

Eric Houghton suffered the loss, playing all 90 minutes and allowing four goals, while making eight saves.

SVC returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 11, traveling to Mount Union (Ohio), for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
