FULL RESULTSThe Saint Vincent men's swimming team earned its first-ever win over perennial PAC powerhouse Grove City College, 143-132 at the Longenecker Pool in Grove City, PA.
The Wolverines won the day's first event, the 200 medley relay, but SVC fought back in the 1000 freestyle. Â While Grove City's Drew Nobisch took first place in 10:11.15, the Bearcats captured the next three positions, led by
Matt Crum (10:47.73). Â
Brian Flynn (10:50.77),
Sean Doyle (10:57.33) finished third and fourth, respectively.
In the 200 free,
Alex Bolen took second with a time of 1:48.93 for SVC, while
Adam Tran finished second in the 100 back (58.86), just ahead of teammate
Kyle Garase (59.35). In the 100 breast,
Andy Moog finished second in 1:02.70.
The first Bearcat win of the day came in the 200 fly, as
Xander Emili tripped the timer in 1:58.73, more than 2 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Â SVC's
Adam Gordish was third in 2:05.20.
Zach Ligus earned a win in the 50 free (21.82), while Bolen finished second in 22.43. Â Ligus then returned to win the 100 free in 48.57, while Emili won the 200 back in 2:05. Â
Andy Moog was a winner in the 200 breast in 2:20.92, while Kam Faychak finished third in 2:26.30. Â Bolen was a strong second place finisher in the 500 free (5:00) while Crum was third (5:14.37).
In the 100 fly, Ligus earned his third victory of the day, timed in 52.56, with
Kyle Garase taking third in 53.83, narrowly missing second. Â Emili's third win came in the 200 IM, with an impressive 6+ second win in 2:01.43. Â Doyle was third in 2:10.78.
The Bearcats then capped the day with an exciting win in the 400 free relay, as Ligus,
Adam Tran, Garase and Bolen hit the wall in 3:16.86, just 2/100 of a second ahead of Grove City's "A" team.
Grove City has won six of the last seven Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships.
