BOX SCOREPHOTO GALLERYThe Saint Vincent men's basketball team lost to the College of Wooster in the first day of the Al Van Wie Rotary Classic in Wooster, Ohio, by a score of 91-53.
Sean Kett kept the Bearcats close in the opening minutes, hitting a pair of free throws and a putback to make the score 5-4 in favor of the Fighting Scots just over 90 seconds into play.
At the 14:30 mark, a Kett three-pointer cut the deficit to five, 16-11, but the hosts would then go on a 9-point run, taking advantage of their speed and SVC's shooting troubles.
Ben Klimchock provided much of the Bearcat offense with five free throws and a pull-up jumper on a fast break, but Wooster continued to increase the lead throughout the remainder of the half, taking a 49-27 advantage into the break.
For the half, Wooster shot 52% from the field compared to just 25.8% for Saint Vincent. Â SVC converted on just one of nine attempts from outside the arc in the opening 20 minutes.
SVC opened the second half in better form, cutting the margin to 17 with a score by Klimchock that made it 55-38. Â However, the Fighting Scots quickly regained their momentum with a 7-point run and the Bearcats never recovered.
Saint Vincent (1-3) was led by
Sean Kett's 12 points, while
Pat Jones and
Ben Klimchock added 11 each. Â Kett had a team-high 6 rebounds and three blocked shots.
SVC will return to action in against the University of Mount Union on Sunday at 2PM in Wooster.
