BOX SCORE
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio (Mar. 15) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team rallied for seven second-half goals, but it wasn't enough as John Carroll topped the Bearcats, 11-9, at Don Shula Stadium.
With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 0-6 on the season. The Blue Streaks, in their first season as a varsity program, improve to 5-1.
The hosts out-scored SVC 5-1 in the first quarter, with a score by
Sean Kretovics, assisted by
Tim Oxenreiter, at the 5:24 mark of the first half. The Blue Streaks used a 3-1 advantage in the second quarter to take an 8-2 lead into the break.
Bryce Pasquariello scored the lone SVC goal of the quarter at the 11:33 mark.
SVC came out strong to start the second half, scoring three goals in the first four minutes.
Matt Mackey posted the first two, 38 seconds apart. With 11:18 remaining in the period, Kretovics tallied his second goal of the game on a pass from
Nick Pensyl, 8-5. John Carroll would score two of the next three goals to remain ahead, 10-6, but Pasquariello closed the quarter with a goal to make it 10-7 through 45 minutes.
Kretovics found the back of the net just 59 seconds into the fourth quarter to get SVC within two goals, but a John Carroll insurance score with 3:21 to play proved to be too much as SVC only mustered a Mackey goal with 1:28 left to finish with an 11-9 final.
John Carroll held a 41-31 advantage on shots, thanks to a 25-12 lead in the first half. The Blue Streaks picked up two more ground balls, 29-27, and won two more face-offs, winning 12-of-22.
Greg Gonzalez suffered the loss in goal, playing all 60 minutes and making 16 saves.
SVC returns home for a pair of games, the first of which is Tuesday, Mar. 18 at 3:30 p.m. against Franciscan (Ohio).
