Saint Vincent suffers 13-3 setback against Wittenberg

LATROBE (Mar. 8) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team suffered a 13-3 setback against unbeaten Wittenberg on the SVC Turf.

The Bearcats fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 4-0.

The guests opened up a 7-0 lead through the first 27:36 of the game. Matt Mackey scored the Bearcats' first goal with 22 seconds left in the first half on an assist by Nick Pensyl.

Just 3:43 into the second half, Sean Kretovics found the back of the net to make the score 7-2, with Pensyl also picking up the assist. Wittenberg scored the next four goals to take an 11-2 lead five-plus minutes into the fourth quarter.

Pensyl added his own goal at 8:40 to close out the scoring for SVC, and Wittenberg added two more goals to make the final tally 13-3.

For the game, the Tigers held a 31-18 advantage in shots, but SVC picked up six more ground balls, 27-21. The two teams were dead even in face-offs, as each won nine.

Pensyl had a hand in all three Saint Vincent points with two assists and a goal. Bryce Pasquariello led the Bearcats with five shots (four on goal) and Kretovics added four shots.

Logan Hoffmann suffered the loss in goal, making nine saves in 52:23 before giving way to Tim McCall who made one save in 7:37 of action.

The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 12 with a 3:30 p.m. home meeting with Frostburg State (Md.).
