Bearcats swept by Geneva on Senior Day

LATROBE (April 12) - The Saint Vincent softball team suffered a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference losses to Geneva, dropping the opener 2-0 in nine innings before falling 7-0 in the nightcap.

The losses drop the Bearcats to 4-6, seventh in the PAC, and 18-10 overall. Geneva maintains one loss in the conference and a tie for second place with a 7-1 league record and 13-10 season mark.

In game one, the two teams combined for nine hits and zero runs in regulation before needing nine innings to settle the game. Thanks to two hits and a Bearcat error, the Golden Tornadoes posted two runs in the top of the ninth. SVC had two on with none out in the bottom half, but were unable to scratch out a run for the 2-0 loss.

Samantha Emert suffered the defeat, dropping to  7-4 on the season. She went the distance, scattering seven hits, with two runs (one earned) and a pair of strikeouts. Geneva's Samantha Johnson also went the complete game, giving up five hits and striking out seven in the shutout.

Emert helped her own cause at the plate with a pair of hits, while Sarah Swettlen also notched a pair of hits and was hit by a pitch.Laken Lyon registered the only other hit for SVC in the opener.

The second game was scoreless through three-and-a-half, but the Golden Tornadoes struck for five runs in the bottom of the fourth on three hits. Geneva added runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings, while SVC couldn't cross the plate in the 7-0 defeat.

Ally Vrcek suffered the loss, dropping to 5-3 on the year. She gave up eight hits and seven earned runs while striking out six and walking four, three of which were to her mound opponent, Johnson.

Lindsey Daniels, Swettlen, Shannon Baczek and Ally Panzella each collected hits in the nightcap.

The Bearcats host Chatham on Tuesday, April 15 for a 3:30 p.m. PAC doubleheader.
