BOX SCORE - GAME ONE

BOX SCORE - GAME TWO

LATROBE (April 16) - The Saint Vincent softball team accounted for 25 runs between the two games of its Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader against Chatham, winning by scores of 12-0 and 13-0, in a pair of five-inning contests.

With the wins, the Bearcats improve to 20-10 on the season and 6-6 in the PAC, solely in sixth place. The Cougars fall to 6-13 in 2014 and 2-10 in the league.

SVC wasted no time in the first game getting out to a quick lead with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lindsey Daniels walked to lead off the frame and went to third on a one-out single by Sarah Swettlen. An RBI fielder's choice by Breanne Wallace scored Daniels when Chatham failed to throw her out at the plate. Becky Deane singled to bring home Swettlen and make the score 2-0. A single by Ally Panzella then loaded the bases. With Samantha Emert at the plate, Wallace scored on a failed pick-off attempt of Deane at second base. Emert's single then loaded the bases once again. Christina Folino notched the fifth single of the inning, scoring Deane and SVC led 4-0.

Marisa McAndrews recorded an RBI on a fielder's choice to round out the first time through the Bearcat lineup. Daniels recorded a two-run double to right field and then Laken Lyon and Swettlen each reached on errors. A walk to Wallace and RBI hit by pitch from Deane and SVC led 9-0 after one inning.

In the second inning, the Bearcats tacked on two more runs as Emert led off with an infield single and McAndrews reached on an error with one out. Daniels singled to right and Lyon connected on an RBI single for the first run of the inning. Swettlen, the next batter, brought home Daniels on a single to right center and SVC led 11-0.

Suzie Cool led off the bottom of the third with a double and Raelyn Fencik recorded a pinch-hit single and then Cool scored on a sacrifice fly by Folino, 12-0.

Emert earned the win to improve to 8-4 as she tossed the complete game and scattered two hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. She also helped out at the plate in going 2-2. Daniels and Swettlen each finished game one with two hits with Daniels, Deane and Folino each driving in two runs. Daniels scored three as the only Bearcat to cross home plate multiple times.

In the second game, SVC used a more balanced scoring attack, plating one in the first, two in the second, five in the third, three in the fourth and two in the top of the fifth. Folino finished 2-3 in the nightcap with an RBI and two runs scored, while Wallace drove in three runs as she went 1-1 with two walks.

The big hit of the game was a two-run homer by Samantha Geracia in the top of the fifth, her first career hit, and a monster shot that was estimated at around 250 feet. Wallace, Panzella and Folino each recorded doubles in the game.

Lyon earned the win, moving to 5-2 on the season. She went the distance, yielding just two hits and striking out eight.

SVC travels to Waynesburg for another PAC doubleheader on Thursday, April 17, before having the weekend off in observance of the Easter holiday.
