Pitching dominated the day as the Saint Vincent softball team split a doubleheader at Waynesburg University, falling 2-1 in the opener before posting a 2-0 win in game two.

A solo home run by Samantha Emert wasn't enough, as SVC dropped the opening game of the Presidents' Athletic Conference twinbill by a run.

Lindsey Daniels opened the game with a single for SVC, then moved to second on a bunt by Emert.   Sarah Swettlen followed with a single to right, but Daniels was gunned out at the plate.

Waynesburg then scored a pair of runs off starting pitcher Emert in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Emert responded with her home run over the left field fence in the top of the third, but Waynesburg pitcher Jenn Lingg kept SVC off the board after that.  Carrie Maier came on in relief and got into trouble in the top of the 7th.    Marissa McAndrews drew a walk to lead off, then moved to second on a Daniels sacrifice bunt.  Emert then reached on an error, putting runners at the corners with one out.  However, Maier was able to get out of the jam and pick up the save, as the Jackets held on for a 2-1 victory.

Game two proved to be another pitching battle, as Laken Lyon (6-2) tossed a three-hit shutout as Saint Vincent earned the split.

The game was scoreless into the fourth inning, when SVC, playing as the home team, got a leadoff single from Emert.  Pinch-runner Raelyn Fencik moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Swettlen, and scored when Becky Deane singled.

SVC added an insurance run in the 6th, when Swettlen and Breanne Wallace hit back-to-back doubles.  Lyon took care of the rest, giving up just one walk while striking out six.

Saint Vincent is now 7-7 in the conference, while Waynesburg moves to 4-10.
