Laken Lyon tossed her third-straight shutout to run her scoreless streak to 19.1 innings as the Bearcats rallied for a split of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with a 4-0 win following a 7-0 loss to Bethany.
Lyon was the star of game two as the reigning ECAC Division III South Pitcher of the Week struck out eight while allowing only four hits.
The Saint Vincent softball team scored all four of their runs in the top of the first inning of the nightcap. Lindsay Daniels led things off by reaching third base on a dropped fly ball. She would later cross home on an RBI single by
Becky Deane.
With runners on first and second,
Breanne Wallace roped a fly ball that landed after the left fielder collided with the fence which allowed Wallace to come around and score on an inside-the-park home run, giving SVC a 4-0 lead.
From then on, the Bearcats played stellar defense to compliment the pitching and get the win to split with the Bison.
In game one, the Bearcats were held to only four hits by Bethany pitcher Kelsey Bish. Bethany scored a run in the second to get their scoring started followed by two runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.
Samantha Emert started the game in the circle, lasting three innings surrendering three runs on six hits while fanning three.
Ally Vrcek came on in relief, going four innings and giving up four runs while striking out two.
Offensively for SVC,
Sarah Swettlen, Deane,
Shannon Baczek and
Ally Panzella each tallied a base knock.
For the year, Saint Vincent moves to 22-12 (8-8). They return to action Saturday when they travel to Thomas More to close out the regular season.
