BOX SCOREWESTMINSTER, Md. (Aug. 30) - Playing its second game in as many days, the Saint Vincent men's soccer team lost 4-1 to McDaniel College on the road in Maryland.
McDaniel grabbed an early lead on a goal less than 10 minutes into the contest and added two more before halftime to gain a 3-0 advantage over the Bearcats. Saint Vincent got on the scoreboard when freshman
Zachary Lakenan scored his first collegiate goal at the 64:57 mark. Fellow freshman
Christian Trueax earned his first collegiate assist when he found Lakenan in the open for the score. McDaniel added a late goal to push the lead back to three goals at 4-1 and end any threat of a Bearcat comeback.
Freshman were forced to play a big role in this one as the Bearcats played without two starters. Freshman defender
David Kost earned his first start of his career in the loss. Senior goalkeeper
Eric Houghton started in the net and played all 90 minutes. Houghton recorded five saves in the loss. McDaniel outshot Saint Vincent 13-10 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Sept. 2, when they take the road to face Juniata College. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
