BOX SCORENEW CONCORD, Ohio (Sept. 27) - The Saint Vincent men's soccer team overcame a three goal first half deficit to earn a 4-3 road win over Muskingum in Ohio.
The Muskies scored three goals over the course of the first 27 plus minutes of the contest but the Bearcats (3-8) showed tremendous resiliency battling back. The comeback started when sophomore midfielder
Chris Page tallied his first collegiate goal in the 38th minute.
In the second half, the Bearcats continued to cut into the host Muskies lead. Proctor scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to cut the Bearcats deficit to a single goal at 3-2. Then in the 78th minute, Saint Vincent tied the score when freshman forward
Kenan Ruffner scored his fourth goal of the season. Ruffner's goal was a header after a terrific throw in pass by sophomore
Kevin Proctor. SVC finished off the comeback effort when sophomore defender
Zachary Kocak tallied his first career goal in the 85th minute. The goal was once again set up by a long throw in pass from Proctor.
Proctor led the way for the Saint Vincent offense by tallying his second goal this season and pushed his season assist total to six. The Bearcats held a 23-to-13 advantage in shots on the afternoon. Senior goalkeeper
Eric Houghton recorded four saves in 90 minutes of action to get the victory.
The win for the Bearcats (3-8) snapped a five-game losing streak, while the Muskies fell to 4-4 overall with the loss.
Saint Vincent returns to action at Penn State Altoona on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
