(Feb. 14) – The Saint Vincent men's swimming team put together a strong final day to solidify their spot in third place at the 25th annual James E. Longnecker Invitational, which served as the PAC Championship.
Saint Vincent finished up with 524 team points. Westminster took the title with 827.5, while Grove City came in second at 582.5. Following SVC was W&J in fourth place with 478 points.
Senior
Zach Ligus added another first place finish to his strong run in the competition. Ligus took the top spot in the Men's 100 Freestyle Final, coming in with a time of 46.44, which was .03 seconds faster than the second place finisher.
Junior
Matt Crum took the top spot in the Men's 1650 Freestyle Final. Crum finished up with a time of 16:40.56, to beat the next closest competitor by nearly five seconds. Teammate
Alex Bolen finished in third place, with a time of 16:45.75.
Adam Gordish and
Brian Flynn placed ninth and 10th respectively in the event to give four Bearcats in the Top 10.
Senior
Andy Moog took second place in the Men's 200 Yard Breaststroke Finals, with a "B" cut time of 2:05.38.
Xander Emili,
Kyle Garase and
Adam Gordish all finished in the top six in the Men's 200 Fly "A" Final. Emili was fourth at 1:55.37, while Garase followed him up in fifth (2:00.61) and Gordish came in sixth at 2:01.19.
Ligus, Garase, Emili and Bolen placed fifth in the Men's 400 Free Relay. The quartet clocked in at 3:10.46 to round out the competition.
The Bearcats return to action next Saturday, Feb. 21 when they take part in the Kenyon College Invitational in Gambier, Ohio.
FRIDAY'S RESULTSAfter a solid Friday of competition, the Saint Vincent men's swimming team pushed itself into third place at the 25th annual James E. Longnecker Invitational, which serves as the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship.
Senior
Zach Ligus continued his strong run in the invitational, placing second in the Men's 100 Butterfly Finals, with a new school record time of 50.84. Teammate
Kyle Garase finished fifth in the 100 Fly, with a time of 51.72.
Xander Emili finished in seventh place, clocking in at 52.10.
Senior
Andy Moog put together a solid third place finish in the Men's 100 Breaststroke Final, with a B cut time of 57.72. Moog's time also established a new school record. Freshman Kay Faychak and freshman
Matt Kenney both competed in the "B" Final of the 100 Breaststroke. Faychak touched the wall at 1:00.65, while Kenney came in at 1:00.95.
The Saint Vincent Men's 800 Free Relay team finished in third place in the Finals, clocking in with a new school record time of 7:03.58. The team consisted of Ligus, Emili, Garase, and
Alex Bolen.
In the 200 Medley Relay, the team of
Adam Gordish, Moog, Garase and Bolen, finished in fourth place. The relay team finished with a time of 1:35.76. Bolen completed the best leg of the relay for SVC, clocking in with a time of 21.12.
Freshman
Brian Flynn came in seventh in the "A" Final in the 400 IM, finishing with a time of 4:23.65.
Sean Doyle and
Michael Brinker both competed in the "B" Final of the event, finishing with times of 4:27.15 and 4:30.36, respectively.
Bolen took eighth in the Men's 200 Free "A" Final, posting a time of 1:47.07. Junior
Matt Crum and junior
Allen Sant competed in the Men's 200 Free "B" Final. Crum clocked in at 1:48.23, while Sant finished up with a time of 1:40.10.
Gordish and
Adam Tran competed in the "B" Final of the 100 Backstroke, with Gordish coming in second at 54.04. Tran finished in the eighth spot in the "B" final with a time of 56.51.
Westminster remains comfortably in first place, with 553.5 points. Grove City sits in second place with 424.5. SVC (330) and W&J (319) are currently battling it out for third place.
Competition concludes tomorrow with preliminaries at 10 a.m. before Saturday's finals at 5:30 p.m.
THURSDAY'S RESULTS The SVC men's swimming team opened competition at the 25th annual James E. Longnecker Invitational, which serves as the conference championship for the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships.
After the first 12 events of competition, the Bearcat men currently sit in fourth place, with a score of 149. Westminster sits in first place with 226.5 points.
The Bearcat men's 200 Free Relay team of
Zach Ligus, Matthew Tashima,
Xander Emili and
Alex Bolen, put together a second-place performance, touching the wall at 1:24.75. The time was just a little more than a half second behind the winners from Grove City. Ligus led the 200 Free Relay with a 50 time of 20.64. That mark broke his own school record.
In the 50 Freestyle, Ligus took the top spot, with a B cut time of 20.57. The time was a half second better than the second place finisher from Westminster. Ligus had taken second place in each of the last two seasons before breaking through with a first-place finish this time around.
The Bearcats had two competitors in the top seven in the "A" final in the 200 IM. Emili came in fourth place, with a time of 1:55.87.
Kyle Garase finished in the seventh spot, touching the wall in 1:58.05. Emili's time established a new Saint Vincent school record.
Bolen finished in fourth place in the 500 Free finals, with a time of 4:46.99. Meanwhile, teammate junior
Matt Crum finished in sixth place in the event, coming in at 4:50.57.
The 400 Medley Relay Team wrapped up the evening with a third place finish. The team consisting of
Adam Gordish,
Andy Moog, Garase and Ligus posted a time of 3:29.29.
