BOX SCOREALLIANCE, Ohio (Feb. 28) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse dropped an 8-7 road decision in overtime at Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.
After a scoreless first quarter,
Tim Oxenreiter got the Bearcats on the board first with a goal to open the scoring in the second quarter. Mount Union responded back with three straight goals to build a 3-1 lead with 5:56 to play in the second quarter. Oxenreiter tallied his second of the game, off an assist from
Bryce Pasquariello, making the score 3-2 at halftime.
SVC continued the momentum into the third period, as they would score three more goals to build a 5-3 lead.
Nick Pensyl tallied the first of the goals during the scoring run, tying the contest at 3-3. Pasquariello then added a goal before Pensyl chipped in another. SVC owned a two-goal advantage for the first time, with 10:10 to play in the third quarter.
After a Mount Union goal, Pasquariello added another to push the lead back to two goals, at 6-4 with 4:25 to play in the third quarter.
Oxenreiter tallied the Bearcats final goal of the contest, helping SVC to a 7-5 advantage with 5:14 to play. However, Mount Union added two scores to force overtime and then added the winning goal from Michael Taylor.
Oxenreiter led the Bearcats with three goals, while Pensyl and Pasquariello tallied two goals and an assist each.
SVC outshot Mount Union 39-21 and held a 16-3 advantage in face-offs. The Bearcats also held a groundball advantage of 29-18.
The Bearcats (1-1) return to action when they host W&J on Saturday, March 7, with a 1 p.m. start.
