Bryce Pasquariello scored three goals and dished out an assist as the Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team downed Hood College, 8-3, on the SVC Turf in Latrobe.
SVC and Hood battled through a back and forth first quarter. The Bearcats held a 3-2 edge after the first 15 minutes of play, gaining scores from senior
Tim Oxenreiter and a pair from Pasquariello. SVC and Hood traded goals in the second quarter, the Bearcats lone tally in the quarter came from
Patrick Kenna. The Bearcats held a 4-3 edge over the Blazers at halftime.
Behind strong defensive play and timely goals, SVC added on in the third quarter to take control of the contest.
Anthony Hogeback notched his fourth score of the season, opening the scoring in the second half.
Nick Pensyl and
Jon Souders each tallied scores in the third period, pushing the Bearcats lead to 7-3 after 45 minutes of action. Pasquariello added a score in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.
Junior
Greg Gonzalez had a strong showing in net, totaling 12 saves and holding the visiting Blazers scoreless in the final two quarters. SVC held a 31-30 shot advantage and a 47-42 edge in ground balls in the contest. Hood committed 28 turnovers in the loss.
SVC improves to 2-2 overall on the season, while Hood dropped to 3-4. The Bearcats return to action when they host John Carroll University on Wednesday, March 18. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
