The SVC men's lacrosse team dropped a close contest to John Carroll University by a score of 12-10 on Chuck Noll Field.

The Blue Streak scored first, tallying a goal at the 11:34 mark of the first quarter.  SVC's Tim Oxenreiter countered with a goal just under four minutes later, and the Bearcats took the lead with 6:03 on the clock with a goal by Nick Pensyl.

However, the remainder of the quarter belonged to John Carroll, as they scored four straight goals, including two in the final 30 seconds, to take a 5-2 lead after outshooting the Bearcats 18-6 in the opening 15 minutes.

Saint Vincent regrouped in the second quarter thanks to strong defensive play.  Neither team scored for the first 12 minutes of the quarter, and after a Blue Streak goal made it 6-2, the Bearcats closed the half with a pair of goals.  Bryce Pasquariello scored with 1:59 to go, and Oxenreiter added his second goal of the half with just 0.8 seconds remaining on the clock.  

The third quarter was also evenly played, as SVC cut the margin to just one, 7-6, after a goal by Pensyl with 9:25 remaining.  However, the Bearcats were unable to tie the game the remainder of the way.  JCU scored with 7:19 left, followed by a Jon Souders goal just 36 seconds later, but once again the Blue Streak offense went to work, scoring three goals in a three-minute span to pull away, 11-7.

Anthony Hogeback close the gap to three with a goal at the 1:12 mark of the third, and Pensyl's fourth goal of the day brought it back to a 2-point game early in the fourth.  A John Carroll goal made it 12-9 with just under 11 minutes remaining, and Oxenreiter scored again with 9:23 to go, but it would be the final goal of the day as both defenses played well in the final minutes.

Greg Gonzalez faced 41 shots on the day and posted 12 saves in the net for Saint Vincent.  Oxenreiter had five points on the afternoon (3 goals, 2 assists) while Pensyl scored 4 times.  Pasquariello had a goal and an assist.  

Both teams are now 2-3 on the season.

The Bearcats open Ohio River Lacrosse Conference play on Saturday (March 21) at Hanover College in Indiana.
