Tim Oxenreiter and
Nick Pensyl each scored four goals as the Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team defeated Mount St. Joseph 13-6 in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference play.
SVC improved to 2-0 in conference play and 4-4 overall. Mount St. Joseph dropped to 0-2 in league action and 2-5 overall.
After a goal gave MSJ the early lead, Saint Vincent responded with three straight goals. Pensyl, Oxenreiter and senior
Bryce Pasquariello tallied goals to help give SVC a 3-2 lead after the first quarter. After MSJ tied the contest, Oxenreiter gave the Bearcats a 4-3 halftime edge with another goal for SVC.
The host Lions tied the match at 4-4 with the first goal of the second half. However, that is when Saint Vincent would take control for good, scoring the next four goals of the quarter and the next nine goals overall. When the run was all said and done, SVC put together a commanding 13-4 advantage.
Pensyl was a large part of the SVC scoring run, as he scored three consecutive goals at one point during the Bearcat scoring barrage.
Patrick Kenna chipped in two goals during the second half.
John Wohlin scored with 7:08 left to wrap up the Bearcat scoring. MSJ tallied the final two goals of the match to close up the scoring at 13-6.
SVC dominated on the offensive side of things, holding a 48-19 advantage in shots. The Bearcats also put together a 46-28 margin in ground balls collected. SVC won a resounding 20 of 22 face-offs in the match.
The Bearcats will look for another win when they travel to Baldwin Wallace for a night contest on Wednesday, April 1. Start time is slated for 7 p.m. in Berea, Ohio.
