BOX SCOREBEREA, Ohio (April 1) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team lost a nonconference match 14-3 at undefeated Baldwin Wallace University.
BW opened the contest with four straight goals before SVC senior
Nick Pensyl got the Bearcats on the board with an unassisted score in the closing seconds of the first quarter.
The host Yellow Jackets poured it on in the second quarter, scoring the first six goals of the quarter, four of which were man-up goals. Pensyl stopped the scoring run with his second goal of the evening, making it 10-2 BW at halftime.
SVC allowed two goals in the third quarter that helped BW strengthen its advantage to 12-2. The Yellow Jackets added another score before
Brendon Masten scored a man-up goal off an assist from
Anthony Hogeback with 6:49 left.
Baldwin Wallace scored one more goal to close the game with a 14-3 victory. Saint Vincent was outshot by a 43-18 margin in the loss. The Bearcats had a 14-6 advantage in face-offs but turnovers played a big factor, as SVC committed 33 compared to just 12 by the home team.
SVC dropped to 4-5 overall, while Baldwin Wallace improved to 7-0.
The Bearcats will try to bounce back when they return to action on Saturday, April 11, when they host Transylvania University for an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference contest. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
