Bryce Pasquariello and
Nick Pensyl helped the Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team to a 12-6 victory over rival Thiel College on Senior Day.
The win improved the Bearcats to 5-1 in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) action and 8-6 overall. The victory helped SVC lock up the number two seed in the upcoming ORLC Tournament. The Bearcats will host third seeded Thiel in a rematch on Friday, May 1 at Chuck Noll Field. Start time is slated for 5 p.m.
Saint Vincent got off to a strong start in front of a nice Senior Day crowd in Latrobe. SVC got on the board first with an unassisted score from
Jon Souders. Pensyl tallied the next three Bearcat goals, including two man up scores, making it 4-1 SVC.
Trevor Hough and Pasquariello finished up the first quarter scoring, helping the Bearcats to a 6-1 advantage after 15 minutes of action.
Thiel tried to claw their way back into the contest, scoring the first two goals of the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 6-3. Pasquariello answered with a score at the 4:11 mark to push the SVC lead to 7-3 at halftime.
After a Thiel goal cut it to 7-4 in the third, senior
Tim Oxenreiter and Pasquariello both scored to make it 9-4 late in the third quarter. Senior defender
Patrick Kenna notched his 11th goal of the season, just beating the third quarter buzzer, making it 10-4 SVC after three.
Pasquariello closed out fine performance with two fourth quarter goals, helping SVC to an important ORLC victory. Pasquariello also picked up six ground balls and caused three turnovers on the day
Junior
Greg Gonzalez got the start in net and played all 60 minutes for the win. Gonzalez improved his season record to 7-6, as he made 13 saves.
