LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 19) - The Saint Vincent volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over Waynesburg University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Carey Center.
The Bearcats took the match with set scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-22 over the Yellow Jackets. SVC held the lead throughout the first two sets, Waynesburg appeared ready to take the third set but the Bearcats rallied with the final four points of the contest, including a service ace by
Nina Beatrice to end the match.
Saint Vincent was led by a quartet of players who tallied at least eight kills. Senior
Emily Samara and freshman
Sarah Wozniak each recorded nine kills in the victory, while senior
Kayla Stockenus added eight.
Sophomore setter
Marisa O'Dell racked up eight kills, 21 assists, six digs and four service aces. Freshman libero
Madison Cooper collected 14 digs and three service aces.
SVC put together a season-best .404 hitting percentage, which included 43 kills and a season-low five errors. The Bearcats tallied 20 kills in the third set alone.
With the win, SVC moved to 4-10 in the PAC and 11-16 overall. Waynesburg dropped to 0-16 in the league and 1-22 overall.
Saint Vincent returns to action with a home PAC tri-match on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The Bearcats host Chatham at 4 p.m. before challenging Geneva at 8 p.m.
