LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 25) - The Saint Vincent volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Chatham before falling 3-0 to Geneva College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match at the Carey Center.
In the opener, SVC pulled away for a 25-18 victory in the first set before edging Chatham 28-26 in the second game. The Cougars fought back for a 25-22 victory in the third set. SVC wrapped up the win in the fourth set with a 25-19 advantage.
The Bearcats were led by freshman
Sarah Wozniak, who matched a career-high with 13 kills in the match. Meanwhile, Wozniak committed just one hitting error. Senior
Kayla Stockenus added 12 kills for the attack. Sophomore setter
Marisa O'Dell chipped in 12 kills and 29 assists. Defensively, freshman libero
Madison Cooper racked up a match-best 24 digs. Senior outside hitter
Emily Vaughan added 11 kills and 17 digs.
Saint Vincent tallied 57 kills in the match as a team compared to just 41 for the Cougars. Freshman Justyne Lasher recorded a match-high 26 kills for Chatham in the loss.
In the nightcap, Geneva beat the Bearcats by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-12. Stockenus led the offense with seven kills, while O'Dell chipped in six kills and 10 assists.
With a split, Saint Vincent moved to 5-11 in PAC play and 12-18 overall. With losses in both matches, Chatham dropped to 4-12 in PAC play and 8-21 overall. By sweeping both matches, Geneva improved to 14-2 in the PAC and 20-10 overall.
Saint Vincent will travel to Thiel College on Thursday, Oct. 27 for the final road contest of the season. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
