The SVC swimming teams opened up their season by competing against Division II and Division III teams at the Westminster Relays, held in New Wilmington, PA.
The women's relay team opened up the meet with a second place finish ahead of rival Westminster College by
Maddie Bartrug,
Hannah Barkey, and
Marissa Frollo in the 3x100 Butterfly Relay with a time of 3:05.55.
The men's relay team of
Adam Gordish,
Adam Tran, and
Jacob Davis picked up a third place finish in the 3x100 Backstroke Relay with a time of 2:50.25.
The men's team would then add a third place finish in the 800 Free Relays. The relay team of
Matt Tashima,
Andrew Rectenwald,
Alex Bolen and Tran beat the Division II relay team from Edinboro by over 30 seconds in the event.
The relay team of
Sarah Sheldon,
Grace Reynolds, and
Ciara Lewis and Bartrug picked up a second place finish in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:12.89 out-touching rival Westminster, who clocked in with a time of 4:13.81.
SVC picked up another second place finish in the 200 Free Relay, consisting of
Cassie Trudel,
Katelyn Miller,
Claire Kenna, and Frollo.
On the men's side in the 200, the quartet of Bolen,
Marshall Grubb,
Michael Marinchak, and Davis clocked in with a time of 1:32.18, picking up a third place finish for the Bearcats.
The SVC women gained a narrow edge over Westminster College in the women's 1500 Free Relay by Turk, Barkey, and Boburka with a time of 17:20.79. The trio from Westminster was timed in at 17:21.76.
The men's team in the event came in third in the 1500 with a time of 15:47.28.
In the 400 IM Relay the SVC team came in second. The quartet featured
Kelly Kramer,
Carly Grove,
Gabby Bobak, and Frollo, who finished up at at 4:25.30.
Both teams finished fourth in the team standings of the event. The women finished with 88 team points, just two points behind Division II Gannon University.
The Bearcats open Presidents' Athletic Conference competition against Bethany College at the Resnik Pool on Saturday (October 22) at 1 p.m.
