The Bearcats were unable to hold an early lead, falling to Washington & Jefferson by a score of 2-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play in Latrobe.
Things started well for the Bearcats as
Jackie McCarthy, scoring off of a failed goalie clear in the opening minute of play.
SVC held the lead for a handful of minutes before W&J tied the contest on a score from Josie Madden in the 7th minute, making the score 1-1. The Presidents would take the lead for good with a goal from Tatiana Ruzzini in the 18th minute, making the score 2-1.Â
The Bearcats and Presidents battled back and forth for the remainder of the first half, with W&J taking a 2-1 edge into halftime. SVC held the Presidents scoreless in the second half but were unable to score the equalizer.Â
W&J out-shot SVC by a 22-6 margin in the contest, including a 10-4 margin on goal. The Presidents attempted six corner kicks to just one for Saint Vincent.Â
The goal was
Jackie McCarthy's second on the season. Junior
Melissa McCarthy suffered the loss in net, giving up two first half goals and making three saves. Sophomore
Corinne Burk played the second half, shutting down W&J and making five saves in net.Â
The loss drops Saint Vincent to 3-7-5 overall and 2-4-1 in PAC play. W&J improves to 12-3-3 overall and 6-1 in league action.
Saint Vincent travels to Chatham University on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Start time is set for 8 p.m. at Ellis Field in Pittsburgh.Â
