GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 5) - The Saint Vincent women's soccer team gained a first half lead and never trailed in a 2-1 road victory over Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference contest.
Sophomore
Natalie Luppold tallied an unassisted score in the 13th minute of action to give SVC a first half advantage. The Bearcats continued to get several scoring chances throughout the opening half, out-shooting the Tomcats 8-0 over the first 45 minutes. SVC would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Freshman
Molly Drach scored off a pass from sophomore
Calsey Holshue in the 77th minute, pushing the SVC edge to 2-0. The visiting Tomcats refused to go quietly, breaking up the shutout in the 81st minute. However, SVC held on for the PAC road win.
SVC held a major shot advantage in the contest, out-shooting Thiel by a 20-2 margin. SVC also attempted four corner kicks, while Thiel registered no corners in the match.
Corinne Burk got the start in net and played the first 45 minutes of the game, facing no shots.
Melissa McCarthy played goalie in the second half for SVC.
The win improves SVC to 1-1 in the PAC and 2-4-4 overall. Meanwhile, Thiel drops to 0-2 in the league and 1-9-1 overall.
Saint Vincent hosts Westminster for a key conference clash on Saturday, Oct. 8. Start time is slated for 3 p.m.
