PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 8) - The Saint Vincent volleyball team suffered a pair of five-set defeats in a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match, hosted by Chatham University.
The Bearcats faced off with Thiel College to open the tri-match. The Tomcats took the first set with a 25-19 score before seeing SVC take the second by a 25-14 margin. Thiel won the third set 25-21 before the Bearcats won the fourth set with a 25-17 score to force a decisive fifth set. In the final set, the Tomcats prevailed with a 15-6 score.
Sophomore
Marisa O'Dell led the way for SVC against Thiel. O'Dell recorded a team-high 13 kills, while also chipping in 17 assists and 15 digs.
Emily Vaughan picked up 17 digs and seven kills, while sophomore
Sydni Massinger collected a team-high 21 digs.
In the nightcap, host Chatham downed the Bearcats by a 25-21 score in the opening set. However, SVC bounced back with a 25-22 win in set two and used a commanding 25-14 advantage in the third set to take a 2-1 edge in the match. Chatham would respond with a 25-18 win in the fourth set and pulled out a 17-15 win in the deciding fifth set to top the Bearcats.
Freshman
Sarah Wozniak led the way with 12 kills. Vaughan tacked on nine kills and 18 digs to her day, while Massinger collected 27 more digs.
Saint Vincent drops to 3-7 in PAC play and 10-14 overall. With a sweep of the tri-match, Chatham improved to 4-6 in the PAC and 7-15 overall. With a split, Thiel moved to 2-7 in the PAC and 8-12 overall.
The Bearcats host Bethany College on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Carey Center. Start time is slated for 7 p.m.
