LATROBE, Pa. (Dec. 3) - The Saint Vincent swimming teams earned a pair of victories over Washington & Jefferson College in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Resnik Pool.
The Bearcat women topped the Presidents 156-135 and the men beat W&J by a 154-126 margin. The win improves both the SVC women and men to 2-1 in the PAC competition.
Leading the way for the Bearcat women were sophomore
Maddie Bartrug and senior
Marla Turk. Bartrug claimed the top spots in the 200 Free (1:57.56), 100 Free (54.79) and 100 Butterfly, while Turk won top honors in the 1000 Free (11:05.05), 200 Butterfly (2:20.49) and 500 Free.
Grace Reynolds put together a strong day against W&J. Reynolds finished first in the 100 Breaststroke clocking in at 1:11.84 and first in the 200 Breaststroke (2:39.95). The sophomore was also a part of the winning 200 Medley relay team along with
Sarah Sheldon,
Kelly Kramer and
Marissa Frollo.
Frollo added another win for the Bearcats in the 50 Free, touching the wall at 25.23. In the 200 Individual Medley, Kramer notched in a win with a time of 2:18.92.
In the final event, the quartet of Bartrug,
Katelyn Miller, Frollo and
Ciara Lewis wrapped up the meet with top honors in the 400 Free relay, clocking in at 3:44.42. The Bearcats performed well overall, as they handed the W&J women their first loss of the season.
Xander Emili led the way on the men's side, placing first in the 200 Butterfly (2:04.81), and in the 100 Butterfly (53.92). Emili also took top honors in the 200 Individual Medley clocking in with a time of 2:02.01. Emili was also a part of the winning 200 Medley relay team along with
Adam Gordish, Kameron Faychak and
Matt Tashima (1:40.19).
In the 1000 Free,
Sean Doyle took top honors with a time of 10:41.76. Gordish also added a win for the Bearcats in the 100 Backstroke, touching the wall at 55:02.
Faychak put together a strong day for the Bearcats winning the men's 100 and 200 Breaststroke in 1:02.80 and 2:19.65, respectively.
Alex Bolen won the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.66. The junior also added in a win in the 500 Free clocking in at 5:06.36. Bolen was also in the winning 400 Free Relay with Tashima,
Adam Tran and
Marshall Grubb, finishing at 3:24.25.
The Bearcats will be back in action at home against Mount Union for a non-conference matchup on Friday, December 9 at 6 p.m.
