Bearcat men's lax drops contest at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio (March 16) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team dropped a road game at John Carroll University by a 16-7 score at Don Shula Stadium.

The loss drops SVC to 1-3 overall, while John Carroll improves to 3-2.

The host Blue Streaks raced out to a 5-0 lead over the first 10 minutes of the contest before SVC battled back. Brendon Masten got SVC on the board off a pass from Tim Oxenreiter. Shortly thereafter, Alex Mueser beat the first quarter buzzer with an unassisted score with :01 left in the first.

Anthony Hogeback scored off an assist from Jeremy Kennedy, bringing SVC with two goals at 5-3 early in the second quarter. JCU tallied two goals before Kennedy closed out the first half scoring with a goal of his own, cutting the JCU edge to 7-4 at half.

John Carroll controlled the third quarter, outscoring SVC 4-1 to take a 11-5 advantage into the fourth. Hunter Sharp had the lone SVC goal in the third. JCU added the first two goals of the fourth, strengthening its lead to 13-5 before Mueser scored off an assist from Hogeback.

JCU scored the next three goals before Jon Souders closed the scoring with a goal for the Bearcats. Souders' goal was assisted by Hogeback.

Hogeback led SVC offensively with three points. Tyler Durst had five ground ball pickups while Charlie Russo added four.

The Blue Streaks out-shot SVC by a 34-16 margin. The Bearcats committed 16 turnovers, while JCU had 12. SVC was successful on 15 of 20 clears. JCU held a sizeable advantage in ground balls, 36-18.

SVC returns to action when they open Ohio River Lacrosse Conference play on Saturday, March 16 at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
